Our guiding principles

We are here to help you experience things you never thought were possible. Many of these experiences take place in spectacular wild areas. This means that we also have a certain responsibility for how we treat and care for these places.

We do not “encounter” animals, but seek to meet them as much as possible on their terms. We strive to minimize invasiveness and trade some quantity for better quality. And with luck, we believe this trust built with our wild hosts can open the door for some truly life changing moments.

Alex Pham

I have been really lucky in my life. I get to experience some of the most spectacular things that our wild and precious world has to offer. I also know this means that I have a responsibility to treat these places with thought and care.

That is why I started Thoughtful.

To help people experience these perspective-changing moments, while minimizing invasiveness, going deeper, and always remembering that we are meeting individuals, whether they are humans or animals. And to help you find more of what makes the world such a joyful place.

If you want to learn a bit more about me — well, it’s a long story. I’ve been lucky to have lived a few different lives. I now get to follow whale migrations around places like Timor Leste, Norway, Patagonia, Sri Lanka, the South Pacific, and places even farther afield.

Before that, I studied social impact businesses at INSEAD and public policy at Harvard. I did things like talk to policymakers about how to balance happiness, environment, and growth in Bhutan and Nigeria. I worked with social impact businesses in Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Indonesia. I lived in 10 different countries and wandered around (a lot).

And now I get to meet incredible, inspiring people (like you) and help you do things you never thought were possible before.

It’s a pretty great life.
